Every child deserves a chance to grow up healthy. In Piagapo, Lanao del Sur, health worker Muhammad is helping 2-year-old Abdullah recover from severe acute malnutrition. With the support of the European Union in the Philippines, UNICEF and the BARMM government are bringing nutrition and health services closer to children across the region. https://lnkd.in/gh5vqRTv

🛒 Across the country, children are surrounded by foods that are cheap and filling but low in nutrients. Ultra-processed snacks and sugary drinks often crowd out healthier choices, leaving many in child food poverty. When nutritious options are the least available and least affordable, every child’s right to good food is at risk. 👉 Stronger policies and healthier food environments are needed—for every child to survive and thrive. #NutritionMatters #ForEveryChild https://lnkd.in/gexc4s8w

Ni-repost ito ni UNICEF Philippines
Honored to contribute to BusinessWorld Publishing Corporation's 38th anniversary issue on the urgent challenges facing the #Philippines. One of the biggest is education. Despite economic growth, too many children are still not learning what they need for the future. In this piece, I share 10 ideas on behalf of UNICEF Philippines for reimagining education—from empowering parents and investing in early learning, to climate-resilient schools and stronger second-chance programs. The thread that runs through them all: education reform is not a policy debate, it’s a generational imperative. https://lnkd.in/grFQiiem #ForEveryChild

UNICEF’s Child Nutrition Report 2025 shows that obesity has now overtaken underweight as the most common form of malnutrition among school-age children worldwide. In the Philippines, local governments are already taking action. Cebu has arranged markets so fresh produce is easier to find and more accessible, while Pasig City has restricted junk food marketing around schools. These examples show how communities can create healthier food environments for children. But progress remains uneven. Most baby foods and toddler snacks still fall outside regulation, with no clear limits on sugar, salt, or marketing claims. Stronger national reforms are needed such as front-of-pack labels, stricter standards for processed foods, and policies that hold companies accountable. Children’s diets are being shaped long before they can choose for themselves. Now is the time to build food systems that protect their right to nutritious food. Norhanin, 2, was just two months old when Camalia Ditucalan, a Barangay Health Worker from the Municipality of Piagapo, began monitoring him after he was diagnosed with Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM). Thanks to the training she received from UNICEF, with funding from the European Union in the Philippines, Camalia was able to provide timely interventions that helped Norhanin recover. By ensuring that children like Norhanin grow up healthy and strong, frontline workers like Camalia are helping lay the foundation for a more peaceful and resilient future. This #NationalTeachersMonth, we honor humanitarian workers like Tarhata Watamama, a daycare teacher in Maguindanao del Sur who never gave up on her students’ right to learn in a safe and healthy space. With support from UNICEF Philippines and Action Against Hunger Philippines, with funding from the Republic of Korea through the Korea International Cooperation Agency Philippines - KOICA 필리핀사무소, the daycare center now has clean water, handwashing stations, and tools to help children grow and thrive. Her persistence shows how one person’s dedication can change an entire community. Read Tarhata’s full story: https://lnkd.in/gEeEjr-Z #EndHungerPH #UNICEFthxKOREA #GamsahapnidaKOREA #KOICA
